For the children, parents and relatives who have attended the Ozone Therapy consultation in the last five years at the specialty polyclinic of the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital, in Camagüey, it is impossible not to recognize the smile and voice of the in NursingGraduate María Amelia Denis Martínez.
With 38 years dedicated to the profession in that care center, she assures that the keys to careful and quality care is dedication to work, and the affection of the infants is her greatest reward.
“I always give my best smile so that they do not feel afraid of the injection, or the procedure I carry out, and seeing them with a flower for me, or that they dance and sing to me motivates me to get up every morning.”
That's how she is, clear, eloquent, positive and with every reason to represent the workers of the Health Union as a direct delegate of the province to the II National Conference of that union, scheduled for December 8 and 9.
Her election is not surprising, not only because of her skills as a union directive - recognized by all her colleagues - but because she knows the care, dedication and hours of fatigue involved in healthcare work in the Medical sector, feelings who lived with great commitment for 27 years as a nurse in the intensive care room at the Camagüey pediatric hospital.
“I know the importance of preserving the human sensitivity that characterizes Cuban doctors. That is why it is necessary to prepare the new generations and improve the working conditions of health professionals, and today, precisely, these are some of the approaches that we bring to the meeting," added the union leader with 15 years in that role.
There are many reasons to believe that it is possible: “The daily effort, the love for what I do, the sustained work”, and with that same clarity it finds answers in caring for persons in a differentiated way, in listening to each problem and be close to them.
At 57 years old, María Amelia shares the certainty that family support is decisive, because thanks to her mother, her son and her grandchildren, she is always in charge of the tasks, but she is a woman like everyone else, a seasoned warrior, who carries within it the duality of fulfilling duty both at home and at work.
She is the pride of Cuban Medicine, and although today many of her colleagues recognize her, not by her name but as "Union", for her constant union management, she knows that she is not only in the hearts of the workers of her work group, but also in that of many parents and little patients, on whom he has left an indelible mark of love and hope.
