Cuba strengthens ties in education with several countries at UNESCO


Paris, Nov 9.- The Minister of Education of Cuba, Naima Ariatne Trujillo, took advantage of the context of the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO to strengthen cooperation in the sector with countries such as Brazil, China and Iran.

According to the Permanent Mission of the island to the multilateral organization, in the meeting with the head of Brazilian Education, Camilo Santana, the parties evaluated possible areas of collaboration, such as learning, initial and continuous training of teachers, training of digital skills and the production of educational and didactic materials.

Likewise, they addressed actions and policies that both Latin American countries develop in education.

Accompanied by the Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel, Trujillo also spoke in this capital with her Chinese counterpart, Huai Jinpeng, and other authorities of the Asian giant.

Havana and Beijing exchanged criteria on achieving the fourth objective of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, dedicated to inclusive and quality education.

With the Iranian delegation, the meeting took place with the Vice Minister for Research of the Ministry of Sciences, Research and Technology, Peyman Salehi, during which they followed up on bilateral agreements in the process of negotiation.

Between the largest of the Antilles and the Persian nation, areas with potential for cooperation stand out, in particular nanotechnology at the pre-university level and the study of languages.

The minister carries out a broad agenda in Paris at the head of the island's delegation to the 42nd General Conference of UNESCO, in which she advocated in her first interventions for the role of education in the search for peace and the promotion ofsustainabledevelopment.

Yesterday Trujillo was received by the deputy director general of UNESCO for Education, Stefania Giannini, to whom she ratified Cuba's commitment to cooperation and inclusive education for all throughout life. (Text and photo: PL)
