The United States declared guilty for its illegal blockade of Cuba

Havana, Nov 17.- In what is considered another transcendent victory for Cuba, the United States was found guilty of violating human rights, treaties and international laws by applying the blockade against Cuba for more than 60 years, according to the verdict of the international court. that a trial on the case ended today in the European Parliament.

This policy of economic asphyxiation over a long period and its serious repercussion on the lives of Cubans amounts to the crime of genocide and, since the US laws on which it is based are illegal, they must be abolished, the opinion states, adding that The US must pay compensation for the cost of damages to the Cuban state, companies and citizens.

The judges, chaired by German Norman Paech, announced their conclusions after considering the depositions of prosecutors, experts and witnesses during two days in which testimonies of the suffering that the economic blockade causes in the people and the economy of the island occurred. , and third countries due to their extraterritorial nature.

The opinion states that the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights established that unilateral economic measures affect the distribution of food and medicine, and damage the functioning of the basic health and education systems. “The evidence shows that these disastrous consequences have occurred in the lives of Cubans,” the document confirms.

An extensive report of the conclusions of the judges' deliberations agrees on the serious effects caused to the Island by the lack of availability of foreign currency aggravated by the intensified blockade, a policy that also violates the right to health by hindering the importation of equipment. medical supplies and pharmaceutical products.

Likewise, education, science and culture are seriously affected, harmed by the lack of equipment and teaching materials, and international scientific and cultural exchanges are limited, he adds.

The US blockade places barriers on Cuba's trade with other states and on the import and export of products, violating numerous provisions of international trade law as well as financial operations.

The opinion highlights that the extraterritorial effects of the economic blockade threaten the sovereignty, citizens and companies of other states.

On the final day of the Court, Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), assured that the results of this legal and political exercise have delivered a new and forceful moral defeat to the North American government that does not cease in the determination to subdue Cuba to erase its example for many peoples of the world.

He urged "to develop new actions together, much more effective in demonstrating the marked extraterritorial nature of the blockade," and also highlighted that there is not a single valid argument that justifies the arbitrary permanence of Cuba on the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The resistance of the Cuban people and the support of solidarity encourage us to move forward, he added, and concluded with a call to make the fight against the blockade more effective and to use the Court's verdict as a work tool.

Although the results of the trial are not binding, they are considered a relevant contribution to the consolidation and expansion of the global anti-blockade campaign. (ACN) (Photo: PL)
