Espejo de Paciencia Award for María Victoria Rodríguez at Culture Week


Camagüey, February 8.- The interpreter María Victoria Rodríguez Sosa received on Wednesday night the Espejo de Paciencia Award, the highest recognition given by the Provincial Directorate of Culture.

Her professional resume includes five record productions under the Bis Music label, all nominated for the Cubadisco, with two awards: in 2010 with Pancho Amat with the album My Roots, and in 2019, The Alegrias were given to him by Entre Corderas.

Stages in Cuba and the world have witnessed the talent of María Victoria, and outside borders she has been seen in Spain - where she offered tours in several cities for seven years -, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, the United States and European nations; and she has also worked with figures and groups such as Frank Fernández, Teresa García Caturla, Pío Leyva, Andrea Bocelli, Roberto Faz, Compay Segundo, Raúl Torres, Adalberto Álvarez, Manolito Simonet, Van Van and Celina González.

Many recognize her as the heir to the Queen of peasant music, and her repertoire goes beyond that genre, versatility and talent that have earned her constant applause from the Camagüey public, whom she captivates at various events, such as the Camagüey Culture Week.

The Espejo de Paciencia was awarded to her before starting the closing gala of the celebrations for the 510 years of the former town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe, which took place at the Teatro Principal.

In this context, the Municipal Directorate of Culture presented a recognition, for his 50 years of artistic life, to the 2019 National Music Prize Joaquín Betancourt, from Camagüey who for the occasion directed the Chamber Orchestra of Camagüey; and the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts had a similar gesture.

The cast was also made up of the Camagüey Folkloric Ballet; the duos Voces, A piacere and Confluencias; the soloists Liudmila Pardillo and Danai Fernández; the Unión saxophone quartet; the Jazz Band orchestra and artistic education students, conducted by Maurín Delgado and Javier del Toro, under the general direction of Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada.

Since last February 1st, Camagüey’s Culture Week celebrated the 510th anniversary of the founding of the former town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe, with multiple activities that reaffirmed the history, values ??and traditions that distinguish the gentle region of shepherds and hats, while say Nicolás Guillén.
