Tegucigalpa, February 28.- A Cuban medical brigade, made up of 120 specialists, arrived in Honduras with the purpose of strengthening the public health system in this Central American nation.
The doctors of the largest of the Antilles were received at the Palmerola International Airport by the Honduran Minister of Foreign Affairs, Enrique Reina, and the head of Public Health, Carla Paredes, who addressed words of welcome to the doctors and gratitude to Cuba reported the island's diplomatic mission.
Also attending the air terminal were the Ministers of Strategic Planning, Ricardo Salgado; of Science and Technology, Luther Castillo; Retirements and Pensions, Amable Hernández; from the Teachers' Welfare Institute, Héctor Díaz, and the Cuban ambassador to Honduras, Juan Loforte.
Likewise, members of the Honduras-Cuba Friendship Association from various departments and chaired by Erasto Reyes, met at the Honduran airfield to receive the contingent of Cuban doctors who will work in various departments of the country.
Honduras and Cuba signed a medical cooperation agreement earlier this month, and according to the highest authorities in the sector here, the Cuban doctors will be hired by the Secretariat of Strategic Planning and assigned to the Escuela and Catarino Rivas hospitals in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro. Sula, respectively.
According to the information, the agreement signed will be for a period of two years and will also allow Honduran doctors to specialize in Cuba. (Text and photo: PL)
