US sells more weapons to Israel under-the-counter

Moscow, March 7.- The United States continues to supply weapons to Israel despite growing concern about the complex situation in the Gaza Strip, The Washington Post published, after reporting that the number of unannounced arms sales to Israel exceeds the hundred.

The US has already made more than 100 “under-the-counter” arms sales to Israel, including thousands of bombs, since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas, indicates the US media. This comes amid the Biden Administration's half-hearted calls for Israel to take civilian lives into account.

Likewise, the North American country continued to replenish the arsenal of Israeli weapons, thus contributing to one of the most intense bombing campaigns in military history, with thousands of victims among the population of the Gaza Strip.

The important thing is that the sales were carried out silently, since they escaped congressional oversight, the article emphasizes. This means that they were processed without any public debate because each of them fell below a specific dollar amount that requires the executive branch to notify the legislature.

Taken together, all these arms sales represent a huge amount of weapons for a country that has been accused of committing genocide. They included guided ammunition, small diameter bombs, weapons for destroying bunkers, light weapons and others, according to reports from various media outlets around the world.

As far as public military cooperation between the US and Israel is concerned, it includes sales to Israel of 14 thousand tank shells worth $106 million, fuzes and other components necessary to produce 155 mm artillery shells per worth $147.5 million in December 2023. Those in the last month of last year were carried out under an emergency provision.

“This is an extraordinary number of sales over the course of a fairly short period of time, which clearly suggests that the Israeli campaign would not be sustainable without this level of American support,” said the former and current senior Biden Administration official. President of the independent humanitarian organization Refugees International, Jeremy Konyndyk.

In turn, former State Department official Josh Paul, who resigned in protest of the Biden Administration's action in the conflict, stated that the "arms transfer process lacks transparency by design."

He argued that foreign military sales, which are largely funded by more than $3.3 billion in U.S. taxpayer dollars, is something the state's citizens deserve to know about. (Sputnik) (Photo: PL/Archive)
