Venezuela rejects illegitimate European Union sanctions

Caracas, Dec 15. - Venezuela today categorically rejected the policy of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the European Union (EU), for being illegitimate, illegal, and contrary to International Law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added in a statement that these measures also contravene the principles and purposes enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

The leaders of that bloc have unfortunately chosen to accelerate their own political decline, persisting in a line of sterile hostility against Venezuela, which "reveals an erratic foreign policy, lacking autonomy and subordinated to interests other than those of the peoples they claim to represent," it denounced.

It stated that, after years of application, the sanctions policy has proven "to be a resounding failure," significantly deteriorating political and diplomatic relations.

This further confirms the growing irrelevance of the EU as an international actor capable of acting with independence, rationality, and respect toward sovereign states. (Source: Prensa Latina)
