Moscow, Jan 31. - Iran is highly prepared to repel any aggression and cannot be destroyed, stated Major General Amir Hatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, this Saturday.
"Today, we are in a high state of defensive and military readiness, and we are monitoring the enemy’s movements in the region. Since we are aware of their ill intentions, we have our finger on the trigger," declared the senior military official.
He emphasized that Tehran’s offensive and defensive capabilities have been improved and enhanced following the June 12-day war. "The defensive power of the Islamic Republic of Iran today is an indigenous power that cannot be destroyed," assured the general.
He also referred to the recent violent protests that resulted in over three thousand deaths. He further warned that they are immersed in a cognitive war as an important part of the enemy’s hybrid war, which seeks to create a divide using cyberspace and the media.
At the same time, he pointed out that the Islamic Republic is the most pacifist system of government in the region, with which dialogue is possible only if it is treated with due respect.
Hostile actions by the U.S. toward Iran saw a significant increase in early January, when President Donald Trump threatened military intervention in the Persian nation, using the violence during the recent protests as a pretext. And although the demonstrations were later brought under control, he resumed his threats, this time citing other reasons and returning to demands related to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
On Tuesday, Trump announced that a "wonderful Armada" was heading toward Iran, days after the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group were deployed to the Middle East, placing the Persian nation within range of potential attacks.
Protests in Iran erupted in late December, driven by a deep economic crisis and the collapse of the national currency. Iranian authorities have blamed foreign interference for the ensuing violence, pointing directly to the United States and Israel, as well as the infiltration of terrorist elements into what were initially peaceful demonstrations.
