Firefighters enlisted in Paraguay against forest fires


Asunción, March 16.- The Paraguayan government ordered the mobilization of the entire fire department the day before in the face of the growing increase in forest fires in extensive regions, in the midst of a heat wave with thermal sensations of 50.5 degrees Celsius.

All members of the Volunteer Fire Corps are required to report to their bases and get ready for combat operations, declared the second commander of that force, Captain Ray Mendoza.

The call - the television station stressed - is due to the number of fires that have occurred consecutively in the last three weeks in large areas, where the governorates also fear for the health of the population, due to the thinning of the air.
