Havana, 26 Mar.- Manuel Marrero Cruz, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister, today congratulated the Five Heroes, on the occasion of celebrating the 65th anniversary of the creation of the Organs of State Security.
Through his account on the social network X, the head of government described Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, René González, Fernando González and Antonio Guerrero as worthy examples of fidelity, resistance, patriotism and courage.
The Five Heroes were imprisoned in American jails accused of being spies that endangered the security of the United States.
By agreement of the National Assembly of People’s Power, Cuba recognized them by granting them the title of Hero of the Republic in recognition of their work monitoring terrorist actions that threatened the security of the Antillean nation.
After almost 16 years of unjust imprisonment, on December 17, 2014, Army General and then President of Cuba, Raúl Castro, announced the return of the Five to their homeland. (Text and photo: ACN)
