Cuba accuses the United States of double standards in human rights

Havana, 2 apr. - The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, today accused the United States of maintaining a policy of double standards on Human Rights (DD. HH.) that discriminates against sectors of his own society.

According to the foreign minister of the Caribbean island, Washington proclaims itself a universal defender of the DD. HH. while your country lacks federal legislation that protects LGBTIQ+ people from all kinds of discrimination.

The head of the Cuban diplomacy ratified his denunciation on social network X (formerly Twitter), against which he described a policy "widely known" for the double standard in its application according to the ideological sign of the country being accused by the White House.

In contrast, the holder of that portfolio highlighted the day before, also in X, that the Cuban State recognizes and guarantees the enjoyment, as well as the inalienable, imprescriptible, indivisible, universal and interdependent exercise of human rights.

This is in line with the principles of progressivity, equality and non-discrimination of people, while their respect is obligatory for everyone in the Antillean nation, Rodriguez stressed.

Cuba was elected in 2023 to join, for the fifth time, the membership of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), a body composed of 47 countries responsible for the promotion and protection of DD. HH. worldwide. (PL) (Photo: @BrunoRguezP)
