Havana, April 3.- The vanguard role of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) in its 63rd anniversary was ratified today, in this capital, by Aylín Álvarez García, first secretary of the National Committee of the UJC, at the inauguration official of the XII Congress of the organization.

The event held at the Havana Convention Palace was attended by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, and Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, vice prime minister of the Republic.

Also present as special guests at the event were the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, vice prime minister, and José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army, an event symbolically presided over by Mella's death mask, Che's beret and the winged hat. of Camilo, emblematic figures for Cuban youth.

When reading the report presented to the plenary, Álvarez García stated the main problems and concerns that interest the new generations today while recognizing their decisive participation in the most recent tasks on different fronts of economic, social, cultural and ideology of the country.

What has been achieved so far, he noted, cannot lead to ignorance of the deficiencies and errors in internal functioning, therefore, it is necessary to assume them with the fullest responsibility and conviction in the organization's potential to overcome them.

The highest representative of the youth stressed that this, heir to the traditions of struggle of the historical generation of the Revolution, will always be seen in every trench where the will to unite, the joy of living in Cuba and the decision to defend the socialism.

Let us, then, be consistent with the rigor and quality demonstrated during the months prior to the Congress and let us make these days a valuable and useful time to do, contribute, participate and create, he invited.

Since yesterday, the conclave has brought together 398 delegates from all over the country and nearly a hundred guests with a program of activities that included a debate panel on the implementation of the Comprehensive Policy for Children, Adolescents and Youth, a special presentation by the Company of La Colmenita Children's Theater and the presentation of decorations to prominent militants and groups.
