Responsibility in the face of early pregnancy: an imperative in Camagüey

Camagüey, April 16.- Early initiation into sexual relations during adolescence is a topic of concern in the province of Camagüey, due to its influence on morbidity and mortality and the impact it has on the reproductive health of young people.

For this reason, it is essential that doctors, specialists and families are well informed about the issue and its consequences, said Daimy Saavedra Moredo, specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital in the capital of Camagüey.

Regarding abortion, the expert added that it can cause injuries derived from the procedure, such as uterine perforations, damage to other organs, cervical lacerations, hemorrhages, infections and blood loss.

She highlighted that the decision to continue pregnancy in adolescence carries risks due to the still developing maturity of the reproductive system, this can result in complications such as low birth weight, problems related to prematurity and fetal malnutrition.

There has also been a growth in cases of hypertensive diseases during pregnancy, anemia in future mothers and an increase in the need for assisted births or cesarean sections, therefore, she stressed the importance of the support of community and educational organizations in the initiatives of prevention.

Saavedra Moredo pointed out an increase in the attendance of adolescents between 10 and 13 years old at consultations and emphasized the importance of a responsible motherhood and fatherhood approach. (Dannys Hernández de Luaces/ Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
