Grenada and Cuba will honor Maurice Bishop with a commemorative bust


Saint George, April 15.- The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, confirmed today in this capital that his government will work together with a Cuban foundation to create a commemorative bust of the leader Maurice Bishop.

The Grenadian president, who returned from an official visit to the largest of the Antilles, declared in a press conference the plans to achieve the initiative as part of the activities for National Heroes Day to be celebrated on October 19.

We entered into official talks to commission a bust that represents Maurice Bishop and his 18 fellow soldiers murdered in 1983 and was conceived by a Cuban foundation with great experience and talent in creating busts, he stated while addressing the interest in creative cooperation. .

Most importantly, we will mark the beginning of a relationship with that foundation to teach Granada students in particular the art of sculpture and everything that it entails, announced the head of Government, whose first visit to Cuba also included the signing of nine memoranda of understanding related to health, education, agriculture, tourism and sports.

Their tour of historical-cultural exchange took place in the context of the celebration of the 45th anniversary of bilateral relations between both countries, established on April 14, 1979, and honored the cooperation and mutual respect founded on the friendship between leaders Maurice Bishop and Fidel Castro.
