Cuba commemorates the 67th anniversary of the Caravan of Freedom

Havana, January 8 - Cuba today commemorates the entry of historical leader Fidel Castro into the capital at the head of the Caravan of Freedom, which in 1959 consolidated the triumph of the Rebel Army and the Revolution.

Through messages on the social network X, the country's top authorities evoked the feat of the Rebel Army and reaffirmed their commitment to continue defending national sovereignty and revolutionary principles.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the historical images "are both moving and compelling today, just as they were in 1959."

He emphasized that the Cuban people remain “fierce in battle and joyful in victory,” fighting “without surrendering, always until victory.”

For his part, the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, stressed that “the principles of the Cuban Revolution remain fully valid in defense of our homeland, independence, and sovereignty.”

The Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, reaffirmed on his social media account the “loyalty to the principles championed” by Fidel Castro and the determination to “continue defending our sovereignty and fighting for all justice.”

In turn, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez recalled that 67 years ago “a sea of ??people celebrated in the streets of the city the long-awaited victory and the beginning of the Cuban Revolution.”

The Foreign Minister emphasized that this “same people, battle-hardened and hardened in a thousand struggles, reaffirms their commitment to the defense of the homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism, in the face of warmongering threats.” “Interventionists of U.S. imperialism.”

The fighters from the Sierra Maestra, who succeeded in defeating the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista, followed a route of more than 1,000 kilometers across the country from January 2 to 8, 1959.

The caravan departed from Santiago de Cuba (eastern Cuba) and exchanged messages with residents of several municipalities in the provinces of Granma, Holguín, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, and Matanzas on their way to Havana.

After several stops in the capital, the popular accompaniment of the historical leader of the Revolution continued to the former Columbia Barracks.

Every year, on the same date, Cubans of different generations retrace this route as a tribute to the Rebel Army and a way to demonstrate their commitment to the Revolution on the island. (Source: Prensa Latina)
