Deputy head of the Minrex’s opinion on immigration conversations

Havana, April 16.- Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Minrex), today offered his impressions on the Cuba-United States bilateral migration talks held in Washington.

In the statements, recorded on video by the X account of the diplomatic headquarters of the largest of the Antilles in the North American nation, the deputy head of the Minrex explained that this is a regular exercise that aims to review and adjust the implementation of the migration agreements signed by both governments.

These agreements are an expression of the mutual commitment to ensuring that migration between the two countries is safe, regular and orderly.

Fernández de Cossío commented that it was a frank discussion, in which both parties did not agree on everything that the delegations discussed, but each party had the opportunity to make their views on these agreements.

The Cuban side emphasized the role played by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Island, due to its impact on the economy and the life of the Cuban population as a motivator of the migratory impulse, something that North American politicians and organizations recognize. as well as leaders of several nations, particularly Latin American and Caribbean ones, and they have expressed this publicly on several occasions.

The meeting was chaired on the Cuban side by Fernández de Cossío, while Eric Jacobstein, deputy undersecretary of State for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the State Department, led the US delegation. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
