Lula proposed to the president of Colombia to reorganize Unasur

Bogotá, April 18.- The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, proposed to his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, to implement a policy to try to reorganize Unasur, as stated during a joint statement made by both leaders here.

According to Lula da Silva, people who thought from a social perspective, who thought about the social welfare state, who thought about the human being first, are currently a minority in Latin America, in South America.

Among other issues, the idea of ??giving a new direction to the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), - made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela - was a one of the most defended by the Brazilian leader during this day.

Today we have an extraordinary opportunity to work to unify South America, so that perhaps Colombia can participate in the BRICS, Lula said, referring to the group made up of his country, Russia, India, China and South Africa and to which Egypt recently joined. Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.

The president of the South American giant, who is on an official visit from today to tomorrow in Colombia, also declared that he will return to the country to tell his countrymen that a new Brazil-Colombia relationship has been born.

A new mentality of our businessmen has been born and a great opportunity has been born for us to become two great nations, which can meet the demands and aspirations of millions of Colombians and Brazilians who hope to improve their lives, he remarked.

He also noted that he and Petro discussed the current situations in Haiti and Venezuela, but that it was more important to talk about the relationship between Colombia and Brazil.

He emphasized that, as far as it depends on these last two countries, the continent will continue to be a zone of peace, which is what progress brings.

For his part, Petro revealed that he spoke with Lula about the possibility of seeking a democratic solution for the Haitian people.

We are obviously talking about the Amazon jungle, which should be a space that brings us together, both Brazil and Colombia, he said.

He mentioned the need for the relationship between Colombia and Brazil to become a strategic relationship that drives South America as a whole towards real and not rhetorical integration.

A strategic relationship means prioritizing, establishing concrete measures, that the two economies are integrated and not separated, he explained.

Lula da Silva arrived in Colombia accompanied by a large delegation, including government officials, businessmen and writers invited to the 36th Bogotá International Book Fair, dedicated on this occasion to Brazil.

This morning, the head of state of the South American giant was received with military honors at the Casa de Nariño by President Gustavo Petro with whom he spoke about issues on the bilateral agenda. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
