On behalf of the protagonists who defeated imperialism in less than 72 hours, Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Ramón Flores Sardiña, tank combatant in Playa Girón, expressed the validity of the ideals that promoted them 63 years ago.
In Girón we were convinced that there was no other alternative than to defend the achieved justice, that is why the people responded to Fidel's call, the young people of that time took the step forward, as our youth is willing to do now, he expressed.
The occasion was also auspicious for the delivery of the card that accredits new members of the Communist Party of Cuba, the UJC, and the Association of Combatants of the Revolution.
The day was attended by José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of the Agri-Food Department; Division General Andrés Laureano González Brito, member of the CCPCC and Chief of the Central Army, and Mario Sabines Lorenzo, first secretary of the Party in the province of Matanzas.
Also present were other political and government leaders, combatants of the Revolution of Cienfuegos and Matanzas, and residents of the municipality of Ciénaga de Zapata, among whom Nemesia Rodríguez Montano stood out, inspiration of the popular poem Elegía de los zapaticos blanco.
