Camagüey advances in sustainability and protection of its biodiversity

Camagüey, April 23.- The province of Camagüey stands out in its dedication to environmental sustainability, protecting its biological diversity through the restoration and enrichment of its forest heritage.

Nelson Figueroa Morell, head of the State Forest Service in the territory, highlighted the importance of the eight provincial protected areas, which cover approximately 152 thousand hectares of forests and are essential for the preservation of local biodiversity.

These spaces, free of fires even during dry periods, include sites of national significance such as the Najasa fossil forest and the Rio Máximo Fauna Refuge, home of the pink flamingo.

The promotion of forestry projects and the recovery of non-specialized areas, such as those used in livestock farming, are key strategies to protect natural resources and encourage more efficient use of them, thus ensuring a greener future for the region.
