Cuba: United States veto of Palestinian membership in the UN is unjustifiable

United Nations, April 25.- Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Anayansi Rodríguez today considered the United States veto against the accession of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations (UN) unjustifiable.

History will hold the United States government accountable for its complicity in the injustice against the Palestinian people, she warned when speaking in the open debate convened by the organization's Security Council.

The Cuban representative described it as an affront to the international community that Palestine retains observer status within the General Assembly despite the fact that 140 countries recognize it as a state and the occupying power enjoys full membership.

Formalizing the accession of Palestine is precisely one of the first steps that we can and must take to achieve the desired broad, fair and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, she asserted.

The diplomat called on the United States to end the obstacles to Palestine's entry into the UN and the double standards and selectivity of its government.

The current administration constantly invents new devices to guarantee Israel's impunity and exonerate it from its responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity, which increasingly reduces the credibility of the Security Council, she stressed.

In the opinion of the vice-president, this body must urgently fulfill its mandate and stop the genocide committed by Israel.

It must end illegal settler policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, which have persisted for more than seven decades, she added.

Rodríguez reiterated the demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire as well as her country's support for a Peace Conference sponsored by the General Assembly that would allow the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to be preserved.

At the same time, he demanded Israel's total and unconditional withdrawal from the Syrian Golan and all occupied Arab territories and the cessation of aggression against Syria, which violates its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The deputy minister strongly condemned Israel's attack against Iran's diplomatic facilities in Damascus on April 1, in flagrant violation of International Law and the sovereignty of Syria.

These unacceptable actions increase the risk of escalation of the conflict in the region, with unpredictable consequences, she warned.

Likewise, he called for an end to the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington against Middle Eastern nations, provisions that she considered arbitrary and illegal.

The solution to the conflicts in that region cannot be achieved through violence and coercion. Dialogue and diplomacy must prevail in favor of peace, she insisted. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
