Camagüey, June 24 - The traditional reading of the bando kicked off the celebrations of San Juan Camagüeyano in the capital of Camagüey, a festivity that dates back almost three centuries and encapsulates the essence of its inhabitants.

Dixamy Rodríguez Gómez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power of Camagüey, pointed out that, despite the adverse economic and electrical circumstances the country is going through, the decision was made to carry out in a modest way the event that constitutes a fundamental part of the cultural heritage of the region.

She affirmed that the main authorities of the party and the government are dedicated to carry out the celebrations in a meticulous and concerted manner, with the purpose of preserving its jubilant essence.

In addition, she urged citizens to preserve harmony and discipline considering that the main activities will be located in areas of significant historical importance.

In the busy Cisneros Street and near Agramonte Park, crowds of Camaguey citizens gathered to delight in the performances of artists from Cuba's renowned Cabaret Tropicana, as well as puppets, musicians, colorful comparsas and local congas.

According to Yevgenis Peña Montenegro, municipal director of Culture, today the 19 Popular Councils will have the opportunity to enjoy the emblematic ajiaco camagüeyano. On the 25th and 26th they will witness the celebration of parades of comparsas in different neighborhoods, and on the 26th the 510 float will tour specific areas of the city.

Peña Montenegro specified that the traditional parades will take place on the 27th and 28th starting at eight o'clock in the evening, going from 26 de Julio Avenue to La Caridad Avenue. Likewise, the open air areas of Capdevila Street, Reparto Julio Antonio Mella, Javier de la Vega Avenue and Reparto Sánchez Soto will be operational on the 27th, 28th and 29th.

On the 29th of this month at three o'clock in the afternoon, the ceremony of the Burial of St. Peter will take place, followed by the Children's Carnival on the 30th, scheduled for five o'clock in the afternoon at the request of the participants and their families.
