The Moncada: an example of struggle for today and forever

EDITORIAL

Camagüeyanos!

We arrived at a new Santa Ana morning inspired by the example that on July 26, 1953 young patriots led by Fidel Castro bequeathed to us, who integrated the Apostle's Centennial Generation and gave the most precious thing, their lives, by pointing the way for the definitive Cuban independence.

Although the assault on the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks in Bayamo and the Guillermon Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba did not fully consummate the planned war objective, it did mark the route to continue the work of the heroes and make Cuba free and independent, the core of Marti's ideology crowned on January 1, 1959.

Seventy-one years have passed since the libertarian clarion call of July 26, and its precepts are becoming more valid every day in the unavoidable effort to achieve the prosperous and sustainable socialism that we Cubans deserve, whose foundations contained in Fidel's plea of self-defense for the Moncada events, come as a program for the socio-economic development of Cuba.

It is precisely the adaptability of this guide to the circumstances of the moment that has allowed us to travel a road full of obstacles and aggressions of all kinds, which at the present time reach dimensions that only the majority of a people persuaded that their actions lead to an end of victory can face and emerge victorious.

It is not rhetoric; life has shown that in the vain attempts of Yankee imperialism to put an end to the Cuban nation and Revolution, 13 U.S. presidents have concocted every criminal plan that has occurred to them, or every strategy with “siren songs” they have applied to soften the majority's decision to work for a better country.

The recent VIII Plenary Sessions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the work of the National Assembly of People's Power in its X Legislature ratify that we are witnessing a new dawn of the Santa Ana, immersed in strengthening actions from the block, the neighborhood and the community to face the problems of every day, sure of victory as the ever present Fidel taught us, regarding the inescapable challenges of the moment in the economic and social fields.

Such challenges can only be faced with the broadest unity and the daily example of the leaders at all levels, which consciously motivates the masses, and to build together the country that we deserve, the country that the Moncada Program sets for us, with validity and adaptation for each moment.

Camagüeyans!

Strategic actions demand full popular participation to solve daily problems, and in the lands of Camagüey no one can be satisfied as long as there are tasks to assume or warn about their inadequate execution, as the highest Cuban leadership has requested, knowing that an adjusted motivation inclines the popular will as an unstoppable force.

It is insisted that only the solution of problems with the participation of the people, combining the mechanisms of control and administration with the corresponding enthusiasm, thinking and acting as a country, will lead us to success in order to achieve the expected impact.

Let us remember and apply for its validity what Fidel said here in Camagüey when he described the difficulties of the socialist camp, fundamental support for all our development at that time, and also predicted its weakening based on existing contexts, that “even in those circumstances Cuba and the Cuban Revolution would continue fighting and would continue resisting”.

Here we are convinced and determined to make that historic premonition come true, materializing continuity in work and action, with firmness of principles, unity, confidence in the Party as the soul of the Revolution, and certain of victory because we are right to make every July 26 the happiest day in history!
