Crocodile Farm in Minas: a beacon of conservation in Camagüey (+ Photos)

The Crocodile Farm located in the municipality of Minas, in the province of Camagüey, is a reference in the conservation and care of reptiles in Cuba.

Since its founding in 1985, this center specializes in the breeding and reproduction in captivity of Crocodylus acutus, known as the American crocodile, a species that faces various threats in its natural habitat.

The Island has a total of seven hatcheries, six of which are dedicated exclusively to the multiplication of this species. This facility stands out for its impressive reproductive capacity, housing nearly a thousand specimens and each year more than 300 new crocodiles are born, which constitutes a significant contribution to sustainability.

The work carried out on the farm is not only limited to breeding but also includes education programs, through guided tours and workshops it seeks to foster greater understanding of the role they play in ecological balance and the need to protect their habitat. .

In a scenario where biodiversity faces continuous challenges, Minas stands out as a model of collaboration between science and conservation. This joint effort seeks to guarantee a more promising future for the Crocodylus acutus and other reptiles in the largest of the Antilles.

Crocodiles have been present on Earth for approximately 200 million years, giving them a prominent place in evolutionary history. Throughout this long period they retain many of their morphological characteristics, making them a fascinating example of how species can adapt and survive over time.
