Camaguey, 9 Sept.- From 11 to 14 September, Camaguey will host the Twelfth Meeting José Antonio Aponte in Memoriam and the Sixth National Colloquium on Haitianity Emily Bárcenas Pier.
Both events will be dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the Haitian Independence Revolution, the creation of the International Committee of the Route of Enslaved Persons, 30 years of the musician-dance group Desandann and representatives of people of African descent in Cuba.
At a press conference, Yolexy Pilliner López, president of the Committee of the Slave Route in Camaguey, explained that the theoretical section contemplates virtual and face-to-face modalities, where specialists and scholars of the subject will appear.
The inaugural conference, which will be held virtually, will be given by Josefina Castro Alegret, PhD in Science and full professor of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Havana.
Among the most significant proposals is the presentation of the documentary series "Hands of Heart," by Gloria Rolando Casamayor, filmmaker and documentary filmmaker of the Institute of Art and Film Industry, filmed in this city in 2021.
During those days, an exchange will also be held with members of the Haitian and Afro-descendant community located in the Cándido González Castle.
Kenny Ortigas Guerrero, Provincial Director of Culture, highlighted the value of these types of meetings that provide tools for the preservation of Cuban traditions and idiosyncrasies.
As a colophon, the event foresees the premiere of the work "Adventures and Disadventures of a Company" of the Folkloric Ballet of Camaguey, on Saturday, September 14, at eight and a half o'clock in the night at the Teatro Principal.
