Jimaguayú, Camagüey, June 20.—The maternity home in the municipality of Jimaguayú is a pillar of care for pregnant women in the town, with no deaths under one year old reported in 2025.
Dr. Orbey Pérez Reyna and nurse Caridad Benítez Puga are part of the care team that maintains the infant mortality rate at zero in this region of the center of Camagüey, where 45 children have already been born this year.
The home currently cares for five pregnant women, who receive the specialized care required to control indicators such as low weight, high blood pressure, and other conditions that could endanger the life of the fetus or mother.
In addition, they systematically maintain health education and promotion actions in the community to provide families with tools to improve family planning, from methods that prevent pregnancy to those that aim to increase the chances of achieving it, such as fertility treatments.
Dr. Geilen López Rodríguez, head of the Maternal and Child Care Program in Jimaguayú, commented that this year's indicators are improving, including a decrease in low birth weight and preterm births. (Text and photo: Vladimir Aday Fernández Gómez/Radio Cadena Agramonte contributor)
