Hanoi, Sept 13.- The first and momentous visit to Vietnam of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, started on September 12 51 years ago was remembered here by members of the island's state mission.
The simple ceremony highlighted the fact that the Commander-in-Chief became the first and only world leader to travel in the mid-war to the liberated area to meet there with members of the Interim Revolutionary Government and combatants of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam.
Fidel Castro's presence on the battlefield of Quang Tri, it was said, was a boost for the soldiers and the Vietnamese people in the struggle for independence, which ended with the resounding victory of April 30, 1975, which marked the complete liberation of the South and national reunification.
As part of the commemoration, a documentary was screened that reflects the most momentous moments of the visit of the head of the Cuban Revolution in September 1973, from the massive and warm reception offered by the people of Hanoi to his meeting with the main leaders of the Indochina nation.
The graphic testimony also shows the moments when Fidel Castro, accompanied by the legendary general Vo Nguyen Giap, knows details of the historic battle of Dien Bien Phu, and also those in which the contribution made by Vietnam and Cuba to the world revolutionary movement stands out.
In the video has the visit to Quang Tri, which has taken place at a time when the administration of the Saigon puppet regime, under the auspices of the United States, was still trying to deny the existence of the liberated areas and the prestige of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the South.
In the context of the commemoration of the momentous event, the Code of Ethics of the Cuban Revolution was signed, a document that sets out values and principles based on the revolutionary conceptions and practices of its main leaders. (Text and Photo: PL)
