Crowned team in II Baseball World Cup for the Blind back in Cuba


Havana, Oct 2. - The Cuban team that won gold medal in the II World Cup for the Blind, recently concluded in the United Kingdom, returned to the homeland on Monday night with the pride of taking the crown in its debut in those fights and put the name of Cuba at the top of the podium.

The Antillean team was received at the José Martí International Airport by the vice president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), Ariel Sainz, who upon welcoming them expressed: many congratulations to all of you on behalf of the sports movement and Cuban people for their results in this event.

He added, “for us the most important thing is that in an inclusive sport you can also have the honor of representing our country in different international events and contributing good results for our baseball,” emphasized the vice president of Inder.

For his part, the athlete Maikel Merino Ruiz, on behalf of each of the members of the delegation, pointed out that for them it is an honor to have been received at the capital's air terminal and for the team it is a pride to have brought those gold medals and the cup for Cuba, a commitment they made during the delegation's flag-off.

In statements to the press, Roberto Carmona, director of the representation of the Largest of the Antilles, said that this victory is very important because our country is also very strong in this baseball for the blind.

When referring to a message to the Cuban people, he stated that the greatest satisfaction of an athlete is to return to the homeland with the honor fulfilled, which is the first place medal.

Eight teams participated in the event characterized by its high competitive level.
