Camagüey has the capacity to receive water in its reservoirs


Camagüey, Oct 2. - The province of Camagüey today has the capacity in its reservoirs to receive enough water, when the rainy period passes in the country and the stage of the cyclonic season with the greatest probability for the influence of hydro meteorological phenomena of this type.

The existing reservoirs in this territory are 46 percent generally full, the second in storage in the archipelago, as Gustavo Riesco López, general director of the Exploitation Company of the Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, informed the Cuban News Agency.

In the case of the dams supplying the population, they are 62.2 percent full, which indicates a more favorable situation.

At the end of September, the accumulated rainfall was 92 percent, since from 173.7 millimeters as a historical average, 160.5 millimeters fell.

Regarding the average rainfall for the year, the district presented 63 percent at the end of the ninth month, added Riesco López.

The municipalities of Camagüey, Florida, Sibanicú, Sierra de Cubitas, Guáimaro and Minas exceeded one hundred percent of the annual historical record.

The specialist assured that the Camagüey dams have coverage to assimilate runoff derived from intense rains or other events, and in light of this, the sector personnel maintain constant surveillance and control of the hydraulic works.

The extensive Camagüey region is home to 54 reservoirs, of which 12 are dedicated to supplying the vital liquid to citizens, and boasts the largest infrastructure in that field in the Antillean nation.

Regarding the topic, the Climate Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology recalled today that the current month is one of the rainiest and marks the end of that period in the Caribbean country.

During the 30 days of October, rainfall is forecast to reach an average of 136.4 millimeters in the western region, 149.1 in the central region, and 148.1 in the eastern region, according to the most recent bulletin prepared by the entity. (Text and photo: ACN)
