Israel executes operation to destroy Syrian fleet

Moscow, Dec 10. - Israel claimed to have destroyed the Syrian military fleet, in an operation carried out on Monday night, in order to eliminate strategic threats against it, the Hebrew country's Defense Minister Israel Katz said.

During a visit to a naval base in Haifa on Tuesday, Katz said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been operating in Syria in recent days to strike and destroy strategic capabilities that threaten the state of Israel.

"The Navy operated last night to destroy the Syrian fleet with great success," he said, warning Syria's new rulers not to follow the path of ousted President Bashar al-Assad.

It also confirmed that the IDF is creating a demilitarized zone, without a permanent Israeli presence, beyond the buffer zone of the occupied Golan Heights. (Text and photo: RT)
