astronomy, alignment of planets, year 2025

Interesting astronomical phenomenon will welcome the new year

Washington, Dec 24 - This year is ending with a shower of stars and the next one will be marked by an interesting astronomical phenomenon: the alignment of six planets.

Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will be visible in a line during the night of January 21.

Of course, in reality, they will not line up to welcome 2025. It is a kind of optical illusion conditioned by the planetary orbits around the Sun.

During their trajectories, the planets naturally align in the sky from the perspective of the Earth. However, not all alignments are visible from our planet, so this will be a special opportunity.

Despite the high light pollution of some cities, they assure that Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn can be observed with the naked eye, but a telescope will be needed to see Neptune and Uranus.

A similar event also took place in June 2023, the first of its kind in more than 18 years, and Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn could then be observed with the naked eye.

And since we are talking about the sky here, it should also be noted that December 24 will be when humanity gets as close to the sun as ever before.

It will do so via NASA's Parker Solar Probe, which on that day will complete its 22nd close approach to the king star.

“With each orbit closer to our host star, the probe faces brutal heat and radiation to provide humanity with unprecedented observations. Parker is collecting measurements and images to expand our knowledge of the origin and evolution of the solar wind, and is making a decisive contribution to predicting changes in the space environment that affect life and technology on Earth," said the space agency.

On that occasion, the Parker solar probe will be located just 6,200,000 kilometers away, the shortest distance from the Sun that an object built by humanity has ever been located.

And hopefully next year, humanity will try to get closer, at least a little, to what makes it more human. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
