Lebanon, Najib Mikati, ceasefire, withdrawal, Israel

Lebanon highlights need for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories

Beirut, Jan 7.- The Interim Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, today highlighted the need to fully adhere to the ceasefire and Israel's withdrawal from the occupied territories.

Speaking at a cultural activity at the National Museum, the head of government emphasized that commitment to UN Resolution 1701 is not only the responsibility of Lebanon, but is also binding on Israel.

“We have sent a clear message to the international sponsors of the ceasefire, demanding an end to Israeli violations and complete withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories,” he stressed.

The highest authority of the Executive warned of the continuity of Israeli infractions that threaten the entire ceasefire agreement, in force since November 27.

According to Mikati, it is important to translate international commitments into actions to guarantee the stability of the country and the region.

In the prime minister's assessment, Lebanon lives with the hope of overcoming the current crises through cooperation and joint work.

He indicated that the next stage requires the election of a new president for the Republic with the objective of organizing political life and rebuilding institutions.

“We were able to face difficulties together and work hand in hand to overcome the crises. With this hope, I call on everyone to join forces for a better future for Lebanon,” he stated. (Text and photo: PL)
