Havana, Jan 8.- The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today regretted the fire that occurred in a warehouse of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar) in the province of Holguín and expressed solidarity with the families of the 13 missing people.
We deeply regret the fire that occurred in a Minfar warehouse, in Melones, Holguín municipality of Rafael Freyre. We stand in solidarity and accompany the families of the 13 missing people. Full attention is being paid to what happened there and the causes are being investigated, the president said in a message on the social network X.
The day before, the military entity reported the occurrence of explosions at a construction site, where war material is stored.
The Provincial Defense Council of Holguín and a Commission of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces protected almost 500 people who reside near the site where the events occurred.
According to the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the eastern province, Joel Quipo, the evacuation measure is part of the attention of the relevant authorities to the fire as a result of the deflagrations in the aforementioned warehouse.
So far, the officers, Major Leonar Palma Matos and Major Carlos Carreño del Río, the second non-commissioned officers Orleban Camet Torres, and Yoennis Pérez Durand, are reported missing.
Also the soldiers Leinier Jorget Sánchez Franco, Frank Antonio Hidalgo Almaguer, Liander José Gracia Oliva, Yunior Hernández Rojas, Rainer Rojas Rojas, Carlos Alejandro Acosta Silva, Bryan Lázaro Rojas Long, José Carlos Guerrero García and Héctor Adrián Batista Zayas.
According to a statement from the Minfar, the relatives of the missing were duly informed, while the Party, the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces pay all possible attention to this situation and continue investigations at the scene of the events. (Text and photo: PL)
