Including Cuba in the list of states sponsoring terrorism "an incorrect and unfair decision"

Colombia, January 24.- The Foreign Affairs Minister of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo, stated in statements to the press that the reinstatement of Cuba to the list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism was “an incorrect and unjust decision.”

The senior Colombian official stressed that this provision has a detrimental effect on citizens and limits the access of the Cuban population to the necessary products to meet their basic needs.

We insist on the United States government to reconsider these types of decisions and continue to advocate so that Cuba is excluded from that list, Murillo said.

The minister also pointed out that his country does not agree with the application of unilateral and extraterritorial policies, such as this decision adopted by the president of the United States in relation to the largest of the Antilles.

He emphasized the inclusion of Cuba, arguing that he responded to a request from Colombia, supporting the peace process that was discussed at that time, and it was for having accepted that accompaniment that ends up being added to the list that the department of the United States State.

Cuba, as guarantor in the peace dialogues between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), rejected a request from the previous administration of the South American Nation to deliver to the insurgent negotiating part, which was used as Pretext to include the island in the aforementioned list.

This provision of President Donald Trump at the end of his first mandate (2017-2021) rejoined Cuba to the unilateral list, where he appeared since 1982, until he retired in 2015 by President Barack Obama, as part of the normalization of bilateral relations.

As his second administration in the White House began this Monday, Donald Trump revoked the order of Joseph Biden, who six days before handing over the presidency excluded Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. (Text and Photo. Cubadebate)
