Camaguey, Feb 3rd. - The emblematic San Juan de Dios Square once again became the scene of the traditional Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, where the roots and heritage values that characterize this city were palpable.
The event brought together prominent members of the Communist Party of Cuba and the government at the municipal and provincial levels, in addition to having a wide representation of Agramonte’s people, which gathered to enjoy an artistic spectacle starring the Folkloric Ballet of Camaguey.
The session was structured at two fundamental moments, in the first part José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Office of the Historian of the City, offered an overview of the history of the former villa of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.
Rodríguez Barreras highlighted the commitment to continue the work of conservation of the local heritage and stressed the responsibility of citizens in the maintenance of the sites of architectural relevance that enrich the cultural identity of the city.
Later, Daikel Guilarte Tomasen, Municipal Director of Culture, presented a stock of the achievements of the sector during the previous calendar and outlined the projections for this year. His intervention focused on the importance of stimulating cultural and literary creation, as well as strengthening community work to preserve and promote cultural values.
The deputy to the Cuban Parliament and president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, Dixamy Rodríguez Gómez, emphasized the need to advance the development processes related to science, art, health and services, highlighting the importance of these sectors for the progress of the community.
Until February 7th, Camagüey will be the scene of a series of cultural and scientific events designed to highlight the rich artistic tradition of the region and preserve the historical heritage values that identify the land of El Mayor. This effort seeks not only to celebrate the history and culture of Camagüey, but also to foster a sense of belonging and responsibility towards his heritage among the inhabitants.
