Cuba: Government plan to relaunch economy by 2025 approved


Havana, Feb 3rd. - The Cuban Cabinet approved the government program to correct distortions and boost the economy during 2025, considered a cross-cutting strategy of the Caribbean country, was disseminated today.

At the first meeting of the highest governing body in the year, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero highlighted that the program reflects all the essences and policies of the economic and social life of the nation.

According to a report by the newspaper Granma, what was approved by the Council of Ministers contains a detailed plan of actions for its implementation, which emphasizes the new mechanism for the management, control and allocation of foreign exchange for all economic actors; the implementation of the exchange market; and the partial dollarization of the economy.

Marrero catalogued these projections to advance in the rest of the government program, as well as their impact on key objectives related to the increase and diversification of the country's external revenues and national production.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Planning Mildrey Granadillo explained that 101 projections to correct distortions and boost the economy by 2024, 51 are approved and in the process of implementation, including the development of social programs such as those associated with attention to demographic dynamics.

On the route established this year, Granadillo commented that progress was made in the analysis of proposals to strengthen the attributes of the Mariel Special Development Zone, as a place for attracting foreign investment.

In addition, she added that the proposal for a procedure for the implementation of the Resolution of the Ministry of Internal Trade on trade activity by non-State economic actors was presented and the new mechanism for the management, control and allocation of foreign exchange and proposal for the official exchange market was monitored.

As part of the agenda of the meeting, the curriculum for the continuity of studies of ninth graders, pre-university and other sources was approved, as well as the topics for analysis in this year, both within the governing body itself and in its Executive Committee.

The strategy for the development and use of artificial intelligence (IA) in Cuba was also presented, which is part of the country's Digital Transformation policy.

In this regard, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasized the priority to be placed in the development of AI on the island, always from a preparation that will lead to its proper, revolutionary and innovative use.

For a country like ours, she said, that today it is "presumably attacked, blocked, that we are preparing to face an ultra-conservative, dominant and contemptuous hegemonic policy towards the peoples of America, the optimization we can make of all our processes is very important."
