Camagüey, Feb. 4.- The XXXVIII Camagüeyan Researchers Event has established itself as an international space for the analysis and creation of ideas. This event, which takes place until February 5, is the main academic event of the Camagüey Culture Week and aims to promote the study of local traditions.

In its first panel, cultural diversity was addressed through the celebration of the traditional San Juan, a distinctive celebration of the Camagüey territory. Researchers from various Latin American countries analyzed how, although each celebration has its own festive peculiarity, they all reflect the folklore and cultural identity of their respective countries, similar to what happens in Camagüey.

The second panel analyzed the evolution of the celebration of this event from 1800 to the present. The speakers used El Lugareño and its Daily Scenes to show the use of rhythms and music, as well as the journalistic coverage of the time, which highlighted its importance as a relevant cultural and social event.

Musicologist Verónica Fernández highlighted research that shows the identity roots in contemporary rhythms such as trova. Maestro Reinaldo Echemendía Estrada, director of the Camagüey Folkloric Ballet, highlighted the uniqueness of the San Juan Camagüeyano, highlighting its distinction both globally and in the national context.

Journalist Eduardo Labrada Rodríguez analyzed how this festivity has evolved throughout history, especially since the Neocolonial Republic. Although it no longer presents the same elitist revelry of yesteryear, today it has become a popular commemoration that dissolves class barriers and intellectual differences.

The XXXVIII Event of Camagüey’s Researchers is not only an intellectual event, it is a call to the community to celebrate what we are and what we have been. (Idaylen Rodríguez Rodríguez/Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photos: Humberto Cid González/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
