Santa Cruz del Sur, Camagüey, Feb 12th. - For fishermen, workers and directors of the Base Business Unit (UEB) of Playa Florida on 2024 did not bow to efficiency for the permanent actions of the U.S. economic encirclement to Cuba, an extraterritorial measure that exceeds six decades.
Enrique Montenegro González, director of the entity, belonging to the Southern Industrial Fisheries Company (EPISUR) Algérico Lara Correa of this territory explained that the joint efforts were maintained but the lack of fuel and the energy situation hit the production processes on repeated occasions.
The scale species capture plan exceeded 450 tonnes in the previous calendar; however most of that figure could not be transferred to industry by sea for the reasons set out above.
The seven boats of the UEB, located in the area of the municipality of Florida, Montenegro González said, are in optimal technical and structural conditions at the moment.
One of them, aimed at fishing for the oyster, presented problems in the engine, and could not be repaired due to lack of spare parts. It was impossible to comply with the entire planned catching plan of the species at the previous stage although alternatives were applied.
There is installed a completely new plant for the manufacture of ice and a modern boat was acquired for the capture of the scale species, which will allow as planned to increase productive levels by 2025.
In the Business Unit of Base of Playa Florida, one of the entities that has the Santa Cruz project EPISUR Algérico Lara Correa, a state Mipyme will be created shortly to raise economic management with value-added products such as the croquette mass and a land movement will be made for self-consumption in order to improve the feeding of workers and begin the production of sweets based on seasonal fruits for sale to the population.
