Nuevitas, Camagüey, December 29 - In this Camagüey municipality, consultations have been incorporated for the multidisciplinary management of patients in the chronic phase of chikungunya, due to the proliferation and incidence of this arbovirosis among the population.
Geima Álvarez Calero, head of the Primary Health Care Department at the local General Health Directorate, specified that they began at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Service of the Francisco Peña Peña Polyclinic in this city, while at the Décimo Aniversario polyclinic in Camalote, it will start operating next week.
Residents referred by their family doctor for being in the chronic phase and experiencing moderate to severe musculoskeletal pain, with or without functional disability, may attend these consultations, which will be held once a week.
Appointments will take place on Fridays in Nuevitas and on Mondays in Camalote, and will include specialists such as a Clinician, a Comprehensive General Practitioner, a Physiatrist, and a Psychologist, with a Pediatrician available if necessary.
Since mid-year, Cuba has been facing the transmission of the chikungunya virus; however, according to health authorities, the response to arbovirosis has been favorable, and in recent weeks, cases of non-specific febrile syndrome—a sign characteristic of these diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito—have decreased.
