Cuba, China, Hebei International Studies University, academic association

Cuba and China will constitute the first university in academic association

Havana, March 13.- The Higher Education of Cuba and the People's Republic of China are about to establish an academic association at the Hebei International Studies University, in the Asian giant.

This was reported to the press by Doctor of Science Reynaldo Velázquez Zaldívar, vice minister of the Island's Ministry of Higher Education, who specified that this will allow the creation of a joint university between both nations, the first institution of this type that the organization would have abroad.

He stated that it is still in the process of creation. We are taking the first steps, but I do believe it will be something transcendent and will mark an important moment in the history of Cuban Higher Education.

Velázquez Zaldívar highlighted the Chinese government's support for the collaboration, which is evident in the program of 200 scholarships in this country, 60 of them with financial support for the ticket.

He pointed out that these scholarships materialize in universities of excellence, especially in those that have to do with "disruptive technologies, Industry 4.0, robotics, artificial intelligence, new materials, and new technology, among others."

He explained that it is very important to maintain and strengthen this alliance, given that China has advanced development in these technologies, which allows the preparation of undergraduate young people, but especially postgraduate ones associated with the strategic sectors of our country's economy, which is where they need greater cooperation in training.

In October 2023, Cuba and China inaugurated the International Research Institute on Artificial Intelligence in Hebei, led by the University of Camagüey and other academic centers in both countries, expanding the scientific and technical collaboration between the two parties to new areas.

The internationalization of Cuban higher education is a strategic process that seeks to integrate global, intercultural and cooperation dimensions in university functions, namely teaching, research and extension, aligned with the political and social principles of the country, and in search of development.
