Camagüey, April 10th. —More than 270 students are training at the Mártires de Pino 3 Agricultural Polytechnic Institute (IPA) in the municipality of Jimaguayú to meet the region's workforce demands in the fields of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, and Accounting.
Yuniel Montes de Oca González, principal of the aforementioned school, explained that through intensive work with the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture, the five productive teaching units have been restored so that students can develop their professional skills with greater quality and contribute to both food production and the school's self-sufficiency.
Currently, he said, maintaining student retention is a priority, so vocational training initiatives in junior high schools are aimed at directly recruiting students who show a genuine interest in these fields.
Of great benefit, he stated, are the international collaboration projects for Strengthening the Professional Training Process for Young People and Workers in Technical and Vocational Education (PROFET) and Supporting Food and Nutritional Security (CAPROCA), which have provided the Institute with the necessary input for practical activities.
Rolando Placeres Rodríguez, a graduate of the center's first graduating class, felt the need to return six years ago to teach Animal Health and History in the specialty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, a job he performs with pride and commitment. He assures us that if there's one thing he truly enjoys; it's preparing new generations of professionals for the agricultural sector.
Since I began studying Veterinary Medicine, three years ago, I loved the specialty, confessed student Ediany Gabriela Santana Sóñora, who has learned to interact with different breeds of animals and understand their illnesses in order to treat them.
Founded 53 years ago by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the IPA Mártires de Pino 3 has graduated more than 80,000 professionals, consolidating the institution as a benchmark for veterinary medicine in the country, noted Montes de Oca González. (Text and photo: Yadira Núñez Figueredo/ACN)
