Havana, Apr 29th. - In the last two decades, the National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais) prioritizes studies related to knowledge of seismic activity in Cuba, mainly in areas of highest danger, such as the southeastern portion of our archipelago, associated with the system of the Orient Fault (Bartlett-Caimán).
According to Granma, managers of that institution, in order to reduce risk, it is necessary to reduce the level of vulnerability and strengthen the structural strengthening of the new buildings that are built.
The proposal is based on applying modern technologies, capable of mitigating the impact of earthquakes and reducing the costs of the investment process, in addition to having an updated seismic-resistant norm, based on the results attributed by new research in the field of seismology and geology.
The priority in these studies reflects the country‘s commitment to the security of its population and the protection of its heritage, ensuring that the most vulnerable areas, such as the south-east, have up-to-date information to make informed decisions and reduce the impact of earthquakes on Cuban society.
