Camagüey starts second cycle of intensive shrimp cultivation with Vietnamese technology

Camaguey, Apr 30th. - With the beginning of the second production cycle, scheduled for the end of this April and early May, the project between Cuba and Vietnam for the intensive cultivation of shrimp is consolidated in the province of Camagüey.

Miguel Antonio Manso Díaz, head of Production of the Base Business Unit (UEB) Cultisur, of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Sur, explained that five hectares will be planted which must contribute about 45 tons of shrimp, with a favorable impact on UEB, since today the productive levels are low.

For this new stage, he said, a technology from the aforementioned Asian country will be incorporated, which includes, airmen, boats, filtering systems and pipes, as well as a very good quality food.

Currently, he said, of the 30 ponds they own, 10 have been prepared, based on the work of breaking and rebuilding dams.

He explained that in the first production cycle, which lasted for 121 days, five ponds were cultivated with a yield of about four thousand kilograms per hectare and a harvest of 20 tons destined for export and the domestic market.

The intention of the project, he said, is to extrapolate Vietnam's experience in shrimp cultivation and to achieve greater training in new practices that contribute to raising the productive yields and economic efficiency of the aforementioned RomaB camagaeyana.
