The United States designates new Latin American gangs as terrorists

Moscow, May 3. - The Government of the United States (US) designated the Haitian criminal groups Viv Ansanm and Gran Grif as foreign terrorist organizations this Friday, continuing the war against criminal groups outlined by President Donald Trump.

"Haitian gangs, including the Viv Ansanm and Gran Grif coalition, are the main source of instability and violence in Haiti. They pose a direct threat to the national security interests of the United States in our region," said Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Through a statement, Rubio assured that his ultimate goal is to create "a state controlled by gangs" in the Caribbean country. And, from now on, anyone who collaborates with them "could face criminal charges and inadmissibility or expulsion" from the US.

Viv Ansanm is a group formed in September 2023 as a gang coalition between G-9 and G-Pép, the two main criminal gangs operating in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. Meanwhile, Grand Grif is the largest gang in the Artibonite department, key because it is the area with the highest rice production.

Last February, the State Department classified the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the United Cartels, the Northeast Cartel, the Gulf Cartel, and La Nueva Familia Michoacana from Mexico as foreign terrorist organizations. As well as the Salvadoran Mara Salvatrucha and the Tren de Aragua.

Weeks later, Trump defended the measure against the bloodthirsty cartels indicated. The cartels are waging war on the US, and it's time for the US to declare war on the cartels, which we are doing, he stressed. (Text and photo: RT)
