Democrats flirt with impeachment of Trump

Washington, May 6.- For the president of the United States, Donald Trump, the Democrats are preparing the ground for an impeachment (political trial) due to the danger that - they say - the Republican president represents today.

Democratic Congressman Shri Thanedar announced this Monday that he has filed seven articles of impeachment against Trump, who "has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as president and represents a clear and present danger to our nation's Constitution and our democracy."

In a statement, Thanedar highlighted the articles that support Trump's irregularities, such as "obstruction of justice and abuse of executive power", "usurpation of the power of appropriations", "abuse of trade powers and international aggression", "violation of First Amendment rights", "creation of an illegal office", as well as "bribery and corruption."

A member of the House of Representatives from Michigan, Thanedar described Trump as "a clear and present danger to our nation's Constitution and our democracy."

His illegal actions have subverted the judicial system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act, Thanedar said, referring to the occupant of the Oval Office.

The governor has just made the first changes to his government team. He already has a potential National Security Advisor, confirming Sunday night that Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller heads his list of possible candidates.

Stephen Miller is at the top of the hierarchy. I think, in some way, indirectly he already has that position, the president declared aboard Air Force One and said that the time to choose Mike Waltz's replacement is within six months.

Waltz, if confirmed by the Senate, will move from National Security Advisor to Ambassador to the UN, while he had appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the position on an interim basis.

Miller has been a key figure in Trump's immigration offensive and was part of a group chat on the Signal app that inadvertently included The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg.

In the chat - created by Waltz - confidential aspects of a military plan that was directed against the Houthi rebels in Yemen were discussed.

The Lower House impeached Trump twice during his first term, but in both cases the respective votes of the Senate did not reach the necessary threshold for conviction and his second impeachment was before leaving the executive mansion in January 2021. In fact, the acquittal of the Upper House occurred after the end of his term, the press recalled.
