Havana, May 8. - The timely eulogy, a Martí aphorism that identifies one of the cultural spaces of the Fayad Jamís bookstore, in Old Havana, will be dedicated this Thursday to the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of the National Hero José Martí, and will have the participation of Yusuam Palacios Ortega, director of the Fragua Martiana and president of the Cultural Society that bears the Master's name.
This program, hosted by journalist and critic Fernando Rodríguez Sosa, will also feature oral storyteller Catherine de la Cruz and troubadour Mario Darias. Attendees will be able to purchase the books The Golden Age by José Martí; Martí the Apostle by Jorge Mañach; and Martí and the Races by Fernando Ortiz, published in the renovated Collection Biblioteca del Pueblo.
This space takes its name from Martí's aphorism "timely praise fosters merit; and the lack of timely praise discourages it," which appeared in the pages of the newspaper Patria in April 1892, and aims to honor writers, books, historical events and institutions celebrating a close anniversary.
According to a press release from the Cuban Book Institute, the event is sponsored by the Fayad Jamís bookstore and the Culture and Social Sciences Sections of the Economic Society of Friends of the Country. (Text and photo: Radio Enciclopedia)
