President of Honduras thanks for Cuba's support in health and education


Havana, May 30th. - Honduras' president, Xiomara Castro, today thanked Cuba for its profound social transformations in its government in vital sectors such as health and education.

Castro spoke in these terms when he inaugurated this Thursday the Ophthalmological Clinic Operation Milagro Honduras-Cuba, in Tegucigalpa, the third of its kind in this Central American nation and which will provide free treatments and surgeries to the population.

On behalf of the Honduran people, I thank for all that selfless cooperation provided by the Government and the people of Cuba, stressed the president, who praised the talent of the professionals of the largest of the Antilles.

It is a privilege that God gives them, it is not only the scientific capacity they have, but that heart and solidarity to serve others," the head of state celebrated, in greeting personally all the Cuban specialists working in the clinic.

That gift that Cubans have to help the peoples of the world who need it most, and that in the most complex moments are the first to say present, the president remarked during the pleasant exchange with the doctors of the Caribbean island.

She appreciated that this ability is not bought or learned, that is brought in the heart, and I think it is a gift that you have and the Cuban people too, which - she emphasized - makes them different.

"It is precisely that that makes the difference and what we admire of the Cuban people, who in the most difficult moments in any country are the first to come out to cooperate," said Castro, who confessed her enormous affection for President Miguel Díaz-Canel and his people.

In addition to the newly inaugurated facility, the Operation Miracle project in Honduras has two other similar establishments in Siguatepeque (Comayagua, center) and San José de Colinas, in the western department of Santa Bárbara.

In addition, citizens can also access the People's Optics, located in the municipality of Arada, also in the region of Santa Barbara, which offers free graduation and lens processing services, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and specialized laboratory.

With these three medical units, the Central American nation takes an important step towards more inclusive and accessible health care.

The Ministry of Health of Honduras stressed that, thanks to the support of Cuban medical specialists, thousands of Hondurans are recovering their eyes through quality treatments at no cost. (Text and photo: PL)
