Cuba will have a new project to promote agriculture

Havana, 18 Jun.- In the framework of the implementation of the HAB.AMA project, financed by the Italian Agency of Cooperation for Development (AICS, for its acronym in Spanish), a delegation of experts from the Emiliano Romagnolo Canal (CER) will be received from 17 to 26 June to present new initiatives that promote the implementation of several innovative forms in agricultural areas of the country.

HAB.AMA is a project for food self-sufficiency and the development of sustainable economic initiatives on the island. It will pave the way for the implementation of the new ACQUA CAMPUS CUBA proposal, which will strengthen innovative risk systems in the country.

This initiative is supported by AICS and CER, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Institute for Research on Tropical Fruit-Growing.

Lorenza Stano, a communications specialist at AICS, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the project's main mission is to implement a technical assistance process to promote pilot projects in three key research and production areas.

Therefore, its focus will be on the efficient use of water resources in agriculture, through the implementation of automated irrigation using automated weather stations and soil moisture sensors.

During the presence of CER experts, various key activities will be carried out, and advice will be provided on the installation and commissioning of appropriate irrigation equipment at different locations across the country.

Some of these locations will be in experimental areas of adaptation of bioplants obtained through somatic embryogenesis at the Alejandro de Humboldt National Institute for Fundamental Research in Tropical Agriculture.

These initiatives will also be present in vegetable and fruit production areas such as the "Sí se puede","Las Piedras," "La Yoandra," and "Julito Díaz" farms, in the municipalities of Boyeros, Guanabacoa, and Arroyo Naranjo, respectively.

The central axis of this new proposal is to join forces, guided by the results of the HAB.AMA project, to increase local production and access to healthy and diverse foods through an economically sustainable strategy. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
