The 29th Aquerralarre Humor Festival kicks off in Cuba

Havana, 30 jun. - The 29th edition of the Aquelarre Humor Festival was inaugurated at the Teatro Karl Marx in this capital, in honor of the 100th birthday of the Cuban singer Juana Bacallao.

Also dedicated to the relationship between contemporary Cuban humor and the university artistic movement, the event will run until July 7, with performances at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater; the Adolfo Llauradó Hall; the Trianón Theater; the Yara Cinema; the Bertolt Bretch Cultural Center; and the Villena Hall of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

The opening performance featured a cast of prominent Cuban comedians such as Kike Quiñones, Pagola La Paga, Otto Ortiz, Michel Pentón, Capitán 10, the Etcétera Comedy Group, and Franklin López, accompanied by high acceptance from an audience representing various places in the country.

In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, Michel Pentón explained that the Aquelarre Festival is the celebration of comedians, a space of reunion among the friends of the provinces; but it is also a professional meeting where the advances of each one are shown and a feedback of that work.

He also noted that this year the event will not be competitive and that performances will be prioritized during the weekend to accommodate the difficulties the country is facing, and a division of some genres was made, such as stand-up comedy, which has attracted several young talents.

The Festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture; the National Council for the Performing Arts; the Office of Humor; the Nave Oficio de Isla; and the Center for the Promotion of Humor, as a space for fun and art. (Text and photo: PL)
