The Communist Party leads the battle against the United States blockade in Cuba

Havana, July 5th - The X Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) will conclude here today after evaluating the organization's role to reverse the harsh effects of the United States' blockade against the island.

During the debates on Friday, the First Secretary of the CC-PCC, Miguel Díaz-Canel, considered that the revolutionary forces "have to know how to recount and creatively explain the blockade," which, in his opinion, is not the same as it was 60 years ago.

That policy is extremely tightened and measures are being applied that were not applied at any time, and that do limit us a lot, and affect us a lot," he explained.

He remarked that it is not now the same blockade nor the same situation, even, of the "special period" (decade of the 90s of the XX century): today we have an older population than when the "special period" was. Therefore, the sufferings of the blockade have another nuance.

In that sense, he also argued that "we arrived at this tightening of the blockade with a collapsed Electro-energy System, which was not the Electro-energy System that existed in the so-called special period."

"When we have this electro-energy situation, almost everything stops: there is no water supply, there is no material production, services cannot be offered, because there are almost no hours of electricity. In recent weeks, we have experienced three and four hours of electricity in some provinces, in one day. There are others that have been almost completely shut down all day," he detailed.

For all the problems exposed, there are strategies such as the demographic dynamics policy, the Government program to achieve the stabilization of the National Electro-energy System and the "courage, value, without lament, with efficiency and creatively" to face the tightening of the blockade," he stated.

"We are going to go above that blockade, even if they continue to tighten it. But for that, it is necessary to perfect the political-ideological work, it is necessary to explain why we are clinging to the socialist construction, why we do not surrender," Díaz-Canel asserted.

According to the agenda, this Saturday the call for the 9th Congress of the Party will be announced, along with the approval of the plan for commemorative activities for the centenary of the birth of the historical leader, Fidel Castro, among other matters. (Text and photo: PL)
