Week of debates in the Legislative begins in Cuba

Havana, July 14 – The analysis of current problems by the Permanent Committees (CP, for its acronym in Spanish) of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP, Parliament) will kick off a week of intense legislative debates today in this capital.

Around 80 vital issues for the nation's economic and social development are on the agenda for this Monday and Tuesday, as a prelude to the fifth regular session of parliament, scheduled to begin from Wednesday at the Havana Convention Palace.

The CPs are responsible for a detailed assessment of issues that are closely connected to the government's program to correct distortions and revive the economy in every area of society, a central theme of the parliamentary call.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero will update the plenary on the impact of the program's measures, the fulfillment of its 10 objectives, the difficulties faced, as well as the actions implemented to correct and revive the economy in several areas.

According to statements made to the press by ANPP Secretary Homero Acosta, parliamentarians will learn about the state of the economy in the first half of the year, the liquidation of the budget for the previous year, and its planned execution for 2025.

He also announced the analysis of the bills  for the "Cuban Sports System," the "General Regime of Contraventions and Administrative Sanctions," the "Civil Registry," and the "Code for Children, Adolescences, and Youth."

The agenda will be marked by economic issues, although with the evaluation of the government program, starting from the intervention of the prime minister, practically all areas of the economy and society are examined, noted Acosta.

Legislators will approve the Caribbean country's foreign policy guidelines for the 2025-2028 period and will receive an update on the government's program for the recovery of the National Electroenergetic System, a highly sensitive issue due to its impact on people’s lives and the economy, he stated.

Also of interest to the deputies will be popular participation in control mechanisms, the exercise of the highest oversight by the Ministry of Transportation, and the accountability of the Camagüey government (east).

The senior parliamentary official commented to the media on the complexity of the context in which this fifth regular period of the ANPP will take place, marked by the intensification of coercive measures imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation. (Text and photo: PL)
